[EN] I’m finally back among you guys. Sorry for not having been really active lately on this blog, but i had a very good reason : i was busy looking for a new job, as well as planning some trips i will have go on soon. I resigned this afternoon (effective by end of April), and i’m finally done with the awful world of consulting. I’m very happy about this, it’s like i’m finally leaving something heavy behind me. I’ll tell you more about this, about consulting, very soon. Anyway, this is the occasion to come back on this blog and go back to a normal activity, among which i need to end some subjects (my trip in Sweden) and start new ones (about consulting world…). Stay tuned.

I’m finally back from my vacations and had time to correct the remaining problems on my blog. My blog is now back on track, and in a few hours i’ll post a first article about my trip to Stockholm.

In the coming days, this blog will possibly be unstable.

As a consequence of a bad manual update operation, i deleted part of my blog system files, straight in the file system. I managed to recover with an old version of those files, and it seems that all my articles are still here (they are stored in an external database) but the layout and some minor updates seem to be different.

I’m going in a few hours to Stockholm, for a week, so until next Saturday i will probably not have time to have a look into those problems.

Nevertheless, if you notice a strange behavior, please feel free to let me know. So far i’ve just noticed the absence of the Google ads in the bottom of each article, and the paragraphs and sections title have a wrong style.

Durant les prochains jours, le blog sera possiblement instable.

Suite à une mauvaise manipulation de ma part, j’ai supprimé une partie des fichiers du blog, directement dans le système de fichiers. J’ai pu récupérer une ancienne version que j’ai, visiblement tous les articles (conservés via una base de données) sont donc bien là mais le layout et certaines modifications que j’avais faites ont disparues.

Je pars dans quelques heures pour Stockholm, pour une semaine, je n’aurai donc probablement pas le temps de voir çà jusqu’à samedi prochain.

Si vous remarquez quelquechose d’anormal, n’hésitez pas à me le signaler. Pour l’instant, j’ai surtout vu l’absence des annonces publicitaires Google en bas de page, et les titres de paragraphes et de section de colonne latérale ont un mauvais layout…

Depuis que j’ai commencé ce blog il y a quelques mois, à chaque fois que je poste un nouvel article, le même éternel débat s’empare de moi : « ne devrais-je pas écrire en français plutôt qu’en anglais? ». Ecrire en anglais est plus compliqué que ce que j’avais envisagé dans un premier temps, notamment lorsque je dois écrire tout depuis zéro, sans forcément avoir pensé l’article en français d’abord.

J’avais d’abord choisi d’écrire en anglais, parce que tout le monde peut lire et comprendre l’anglais,… bon, mon anglais. Ce n’est pas forcément le cas du français!

Il y a quelques jours, mon frère m’a avoué qu’il était un peu « triste » de ne voir que des articles en anglais, alors que le français est ma langue natale. Et a souligné la différence de traitement entre ma page personnelle (disponible dans les trois langues), et ce blog qui pour l’instant ne comporte presque exclusivement que des articles en anglais.

J’ai utilisé mon compte Google Analytics pour faire quelques statistiques, et ai rapidement découvert que plus de la moitié de mes visiteurs utilisent un navigateur en français, et qu’un tiers l’utilise en anglais. Très peu de gens lisent mon blog depuis un browser en espagnol.

Avec ces données, et après quelques jours de réflexion, j’ai décidé que çà pouvait valoir la peine d’écrire en français et en anglais. J’écrirai même parfois en espagnol si je me motive, après tout çà ne peut que m’aider.

Donc voilà, c’est décidé et entériné. Je vais écrire en anglais et en français tous mes articles (voire réécrire les anciens). Cela m’aidera à améliorer mon expression écrite en anglais (bon, en français aussi), me forcera à faire des articles peut-être un peu plus court et plus efficace; et surtout, vous, mes lecteurs français, çà vous permettra de vivre un peu mieux mes expériences à travers mes billets, et de vous rapprocher un peu de moi

Je ne sais pas encore comment je vais faire au niveau du layout, avoir des billets en deux langues risque d’alourdir la page; m’enfin on verra!

Since i’ve started this blog a few months ago, every time i post a new article i wonder if i shouldn’t change the language of the post. Writing in english is harder than i first thought, especially when i actually need to think from scratch in english since i usually don’t have the french « version » of what i am about to write.

My first choice was english, because most of people can read and understand english… well… « my » english.

A few nights ago, i was talking to my brother, who told me he thought it was a « bit » sad not to write much articles in french… after all, it’s my language, no? Plus, well, i put some effort into making my homepage available in the three languages… but then, my blog is mostly available in english…

I checked via Google Analytics my page readers’ statistics and discover that more than half of the visitors have their language in french, and let’s say one third in english. Very few people read my blog with their browser in spanish.

With those results, and after some days of thinking,  i decided it was worth writing in french and english. I guess that occasionnally i could also write in spanish, but we’ll see.

So here it is. From now on, i’m gonna write in english AND french. This will help me improve my writing skills (in all languages), force me to be more concise and efficient in my articles and allow you to have something more understandable (at least for my french readers ).

I don’t know yet how i will work out the layout, to make things easy to read, but stay tuned.

Oh it’s not really a big deal, its just part of the process, you know, to be known on the web.

Technorati is a popular Internet search engine mainly focused on blogs.

Technorati looks at tags that authors have placed on their websites. These tags help categorize search results, with recent results coming first. Technorati rates each blog’s « authority », the number of unique blogs linking to the blog over the previous six months.

So far i think just two blogs are linking to my blog, but this is not really a surprise.

To register your blog in Technorati, you first have to create a user account there. Once confirmed, you have to claim for your blog in your profile, which basically consists in saying « that url is my blog ». After some time, Technorati team will contact you back and ask you to publish a new blog post including a special token (you can include it as an hidden text input within a form: Technorati will go through your source code and find that token anyway). You can then go back to your profile and verify your claim, which will tell Technorati that your blog is ready for verification : Technorati then finds the token in your code and tells you that your claim is awaiting review.

And then… i still have to figure out what will happen
