[disponible ici en francais]

The year 2009 just ended, and with the new year as most people do i came out with a bunch of good resolutions.

Actually i don’t really like to talk about resolutions or objectives. Its a bit constraining, and it’s not the way i see them. To me, its more kind of a guideline for 2010, of things i’d like to do/accomplish/improve.

There are quiet some stuff. Although i look ambitious, i am realistic and know that probably i won’t do it all. But anyway, this « list » will be a good guideline!

So, here we are:

Enjoy Madrid

In 2009, i didn’t enjoy Madrid enough. I went out, i visited one or two museums, obviously; but overall i was mostly home just geeking – for example i haven’t come back to a language exchange meeting (more on this subject soon), since mid-November.

So in 2010, i’m gonna get motivated. Go out more, either in bars and clubs, or discovering Madrid and other areas i don’t really know, or go to more cultural events (cinema, theater, a corrida, …)

Travel through Spain

In 2009 i travelled a lot. Really: Budapest, Cannes, Toulon, Brussels, Lyon, Thailand, Bosnia, Switzerland. I can’t seriously complain. BUT i didn’t travel that much in Spain (only Plasencia, Segovia, Sevilla, Barcelona and Salamanca and Madrid where i have been living).En 2009, j’ai beaucoup voyagé.

Therefore, in 2010, i would like to travel less abroad and discover more Spain: among other things, i really want to go to some ferias (Aranjuez, Plasencia and Sevilla obviously), and most important go one week (at least) through Andalucia. Wait and see!

Be (more) active on the Internet.

End of 2009 i started blogging for real, and i enjoy it. It’s not always easy to find something relevant to say, it’s time-consuming but i really like it.

I will go on with my blog in 2010, and try to increase the frequency of my posts, and try to make them more concrete and interesting. I still have to finish my personal homepage in PHP (i have been talking about this forever, that’s right), and i have other projects in my mind (in 24 hours, two different persons asked me to develop their own web page).

I am also already thinking of a new version of my homepage, to include more details on my professional profile, my current projects, what i’m looking for and what i can offer.

Efficiency

I was not an efficient person in 2009. I easily start many things in every directions and don’t really focus. For example, when i was playing guitar, i could start to play 5 different songs in 20 minutes, but at the end not learn anything. Besides, i am procrastinating a LOT.

2010 will be a more « serious » year, or « disciplined », or « efficient ». Use whatever word you like, what i mean here is to be more focused, more capable to spend the right time on what really matters – that could be done by decreasing the amount on time spent checking facebook for example.

That might look silly to you, but to me it’s really important, and it can really change the course of my year.

Eat better

During the last weeks of 2009, i ate pretty bad. I was never planning to get food at work (all spanish people eat at work, its rare to go to a restaurant for lunch), and so i was forced to buy stuff at the supermarket downstairs. But there, the food is not always very good or fresh, and quiet expensive.

Plan your meals for the week, buy vegies, i guess you all have this as granted, but i need to pay a particular attention to this!

I would also like to discover spanish cuisine, so im gonna try to cook a new spanish speciality every month. I know its not that much but here i’m being realistic – my ambitions 2009 were to high, and at the end i didnt do much.

Guitar

In 2009, i had big plans for my guitar. Take more lessons, why not enter an existing band. But at the end, i didn’t learn anything. I was always trying to learn many songs at the same time, which cause me to get tired of playing guitar. Therefore i have decided for 2010 to just work on one or two songs at the same time. Lately i’ve been trying to learn Layla from Clapton, and i’m also working a bit on Number Three from Ben Harper and Tears In Heaven from Clapton.

I am also thinking of go again over all the lessons i had with Olivier Juprelle in Belgium (the guitarist from Mudflow)

Juggling

There was at least one good thing about 2009: i started juggling for real, and i’m quiet satisfied with the result, even if it is not very high. I can now juggle with 3 clubs almost correctly, i still miss one or two hours of training more but i’m really close. Therefore i want to continue this in 2010.

I know this place, its free and open to anybody who wants to learn how to juggle or improve. Its a bit far from my place and from work, so a few times i was motivated and at the very last moment i just stayed home… But in 2010 i need to find deepyl soem motivation to go there!

Spanish

Since the end of my intensive courses in Salamanca, my level of spanish is kind of remaining stable. Not improving, not losing it either. But well, i’m living in Spain, no? I should improve it! But point is, at work i talk both french and spanish, and back home, with my friends, i mostly talk Spanish, yes, but mostly with foreigners, so… i’m not really learning much. Anyway, i have to go back on this more seriously, i just bought myself a small notebook, and i’ll be able to write down some vocabulary or even some grammar rules i tend to forget. I also have a grammar book that i really appreciate, so i’ll open it more often.

A proper objective could be to get the DELE at the end of 2010 or in May 2011, why not. But there is a problem: there is a big disparity in the levels you can get: i guess i’m between B2 and C2, but C2 is definitely too high: i even know some spanish people who had a look at the exams and told me they couldn’t answer (C2 is usually required to teach Spanish)

Sport

Ay thats the worse part. In 2009 i was full of great intentions about sports: my main point was to continue climbing, that i started with so much success and enthusiasm at the end of 2008 with Christian. But in 2009 i didn’t do anything. 2 climbing sessions, went running a few times, and point.

I wa motivated in 2009 to subscribe for climbing here in Madrid, but it was too late – i want to apply for new lessons from scratch.

So in 2010, wait and see. I bought the methode Lafay book, i have a traction bar, i am still thinking of climbing, and i could also start running on a regular basis! But nothing really precise at the moment, which is scaring me.

Anyway…

Conclusion

I don’t really know if its a big list or no. In soem way, yes, i have many points. But there is nothing really concrete, things such as « spend 1h30 doing sport each week ». So… i dont know.Maybe i should less ambitious, maybe i should really focus on « being efficient », which could free up some time to do new things.

I’ll try to do a regular review about this (not here of course), and very frequently adapt my objectives to the reality of my motivation and my free time!

Maybe i’ll let you know about how this is all going!

Take care.

    Hi Nico,
Is Christian the project manager with whom you went to Bankok ?

    euh… weird question ;-)
I went with him to Bangkok, yep, but i wouldn’t say he is a project manager, he is more a PSO (Project Support Officer) or something like this.
    Nico!
